I've done a lot of research on different Christian denominations but I cannot find a simple answer to this question. Every google result has a different answer from a different bias. So here's my question: Why did protestants remove books of the bible?

Long story short, I'm looking into Christianity but don't want to just pick a denomination at random.

Did they just not like the content or was there another reason? It seems odd to me that they declare the many books of the bible to be the Word of God but then removed some of those after-the-fact. Doesn't that call into question the validity of the "Word of God" title if books can just be removed?
