Nicolo Machiavelli tutored
kings on this topic concerning ruling their people.
It is better to be
feared than loved, if you cannot be both.
- Nicolo
Machiavelli
Machiavelli came to a
conclusion that fear was better than love. He reasoned love was a reciprocal
relationship, depending on others to continue to love you in order to rule over
them. He believed fear could be
sustained due to the relationship being one sided. Machiavelli maybe should
have had a talk with a Mr. Yoda from the Star Wars movies before he came to
this conclusion. The Character has a famous quote from the movies regarding
fear, and well he is on point.
"Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger
leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering."
- Yoda
Problem with ruling out
of fear is that people will eventually hate you. And then rebel against you. It
doesn't matter how powerful you are. It's a forgone conclusion. Fear may be the
quickest path to control. However in the end it will destroy you.
How does this relate
back to atheist?
Have you ever noticed
how an atheist blood will start to boil by the very mentioning of God? Why is
that? Why would something that they believe is completely made up make them so
upset? Maybe something is at play that they don't even realize them self's.
Maybe in truth they are afraid of God?
Someone could easily
feel like they are being scared to God. However that is not the true message of
Christ. You can find more information on Christ's true
message in my previous articles Understanding The True Meaning Of Faith and Should We Come To God Out Of Fear OF Hell?
Hatred
stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses. - Proverbs 10:12
I do understand however
how someone could easily feel otherwise. Considering that's what you will hear
more than anything else attending many Churches today. We often will hear why
we should be afraid of our lord. Rather than why we should love our Savior.
This is a great tragedy. Is it time we remember God's true message and stop
leading his people to the dark side?
