Trying to see past my skepticism. How can I find God?

Recently I began reading Mere Christianity and (tidbits of) The Case for Christ, I've been sitting in on services from churches of different denominations, I've been discussing faith with Christians and church leaders, I've been reading the Bible... heck, I even started the Alpha Course with Nicky Gumbel. I want so badly to believe, but I'm struggling.

A major factor in why I'm having trouble is that I just can't - or rather, don't want to - believe that non-believers will not go to heaven-- which seems to be a popular opinion among the (non-denominational?) Christians I've spoken with. Another one is that I am the daughter of gay parents, and I can't believe that God would find anything sinful about our family.

But mostly, I am just skeptical that there even is a God. I WANT to believe, but how?

Never fails to amaze me when I hear atheist tell me how evolution, the big bang theory, etc are fact. I am told how great minds agree on them so they obviously have proof. Swagbucks at first seems too good to be true right? They are just going to give you free stuff for just searching for a word in their search engine, watching videos, answering a few simple questions. I view faith as one of the most misunderstood terms in of the christian faith its self. This is very strange giving the term faith is so obviously vital to the description of our belief.
