I don't mean to poke the bee-hive too hard here but what's up with all the controversy over the book called "The Shack"?
I've read it, I found it to be a beautiful story of God loving us individually, meeting us where we are and caring for us as the Good Shepherd.
I understand that the trinity is personified by three characters in this story, Jesus is personified as Jesus, the Father is personified as 'Papa' a large black woman, and the Spirit is personified as a meek wispy woman. Admittedly this caught me off guard when I first read it but is this really such a big deal? God created masculinity and femininity. Is it such a great insult to God for him to show himself as anything other than a man for the sake of reaching and healing a wounded sheep? Is there some other great blasphemy that I didn't notice? Because some of the people I spoke to about it seemed pretty passionate, and surprise surprise they haven't read it themselves.
