Figured I'd put this here for others. Bought some LG Sunshine and Luckys on Prime Day for $5 back in July. Two of them recently broke. I've definitely gotten more than my moneys worth for them but since they come with a 1 yr warranty I figured "What the hell, might as well get some more milage out of them" First off, checked LG to make sure the manufacturer wouldn't do it instead, no dice :P warranty only through tracfone. I called the Tracfone support number the warranty pamphlet gave me and after a maze of automated systems they ask me for the phones #. Well like most of us they aren't activated and thus don't have a number. At that point I considered the merits of hammering Zero till I got a person but figured fuck it I'll go through their website. First off even via the site you can't request a ticket since it will just ask you to activate the phone.
Eventually up in a chat with one of their support reps Audrey. I give a run down of my issues, we go through some basic troubleshooting and then she asks me where I bought it. I tell her from Tracfone on Amazon and she proceeds to tell me to go to Amazon for resolution. Bitch, the order is 7 fucking months old, I still bought it from Tracfone and the warranty is specifically provided by your ass. I calmly explain this and include an excerpt from the literature showing the warranty is through tracfone and to contact them. We do some more troubleshooting and finally the ends up telling me it has to be activated to issue a ticket. I told her straight up that wasn't correct and I knew it. I cited the section of US law stating that provisions like that in a warranty have to be explicitly stated which they are not. No luck, she keeps repeating the same shit. I end the chat with her and rail her in the post-chat review.
At this point I couldn't give a shit about my 2x $5 phones but the principle of it pisses me off. Next I dropped by Amazon in a last ditch effort to get something done, as I expected they obviously aren't going to do shit about a 7 month old order they aren't responsible for and I wouldn't expect them to.
So I'm about to drop the issue and just forget the whole thing then it occurs to me that Audrey, who most likely is some Indian dude in a support center, sounds like the kind of person who ate a lot of paste when they were younger. I jumped back into a new chat on Tracfone's site with a new Rep. and just cut the bullshit straight out. I'll paraphrase below
Me: I have who phones with corrupted boot files, I need a box sent Rep: Return or replace? Me:Replace or repair w/e Just send a box Rep: You do the things to fix it? Me: I did the fix things, no fix Rep: What about this thing? Me: That thing too. Rep: What is your address, sending box Me: Address Rep: Here are your ticket numbers, one for each phone.
So eventually I got what I wanted and others might have similar success. Although the first rep clearly sucked I seriously suggest doing what you can to cut through all the bullshit. Don't give them any room to argue if you don't have to.
Lastly can I just say how tired I am of support reps lying to me in general. I go out of my way to be polite to some motherfucker because I know they're dealing with irate people all day and as thanks several one them seem to think it's okay to lie to face,
