Many people go,"If I work hard for my family, I'll provide for them. So I'll work myself the hardest I can always for the good of my family." Others go,"Whoa! I found out God is real! Time to serve the dude non stop until I die!"
While people chillin and watching tv and being lazy is probably more common than someone with an iron will overworking themselves, overworking is actually a problem. Stress causes people to be unhealthy and live a shorter lifespan if it persists. Living without exercise will result in a shorter lifespan too. We gotta take breaks and destress sometimes.
The popular way of unwinding is the Sabbath. The Jewish people take their Sabbath on Saturday. Christians often favor Sunday, but some are favoring Saturday. Some people still can't schedule the weekend off and pick a random day for themselves. The Sabbath is simple,"Relax and unwind and don't do any unecessary work, travel, or buying stuff."
Jesus taught us not to be legalistic on the Sabbath. Some work is unavoidable on the Sabbath. And if we didn't do our work then, it could hurt others physically, mentally or spiritually. So we should avoid work, but if it is unavoidable, we shouldn't stress that God is going to strike us down for getting something needed done.
The Sabbath is for man. Man is not made for the Sabbath. The Sabbath is supposed to be good for us. We're not to become slaves of the Sabbath and get bent out of shape because of it. Try your best to not work, travel, and go to stores on it. But if you gotta do that stuff, do it.
Other ways to unwind other than the Sabbath is to take frequent breaks from work. If your job is a sitting down job, stand up and go for stretch or walk breaks for a few minutes each hour if your employer allows.
Exercise is important. Everyone able to do aerobics or treadmills or walking should do some each day. Exercise will help you live longer, and make your life better in those more days. I believe the saying is that it will bring years to your life and life to your years.
Combine destressing with a bit of exercise and you'll live longer. Do it. I believe you'll ultimately get more work done by living longer.
