How can the pope say this without simultaneously condemning the violence in the OT? Doesn't this imply his condemnation on Joshua/Saul/David? I've struggled a lot with the wars conducted by the Israelites, and I guess I just don't see how we can say "killing for God is always bad, and yet "Joshua was a godly leader."
