I asked my chaplain why there were so many weird rules in the Old Testament that nobody follows, like not being allowed to cut your beard and all the dietary restrictions. He referred me to this article:
Take a look, it's only three paragraphs long. Basically, the Old Testament had all the rules that helped people stay in line before Jesus came to act as guide, many were geared specifically toward the Israelites in a specific time and place, and many were specifically to help gives the Israelites a unique identity (like the food and clothing laws).
Is was news to me. Does this reflect the general consensus in the Christian community? Would love to see your responses.
