I was reading Matthew when i came across these two verses
"But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that He had done, and the children who were shouting in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they became indignant and said to Him, “Do You hear what these children are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, ‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies You have prepared praise for Yourself’?” Matthew 21: 15-16
Jesus is quoting psalm 8 but putting himself in place of God. When the praise of infants is clearly being directed to him, he quotes psalm 8 in which praise is being given by infants to God.
Another such example occurs in Matthew 11: 7-10
As John’s disciples were leaving, Jesus began to speak to the crowd about John: “What did you go out into the wilderness to see? A reed swayed by the wind? If not, what did you go out to see? A man dressed in fine clothes?
Then what did you go out to see? A prophet? Yes, I tell you, and more than a prophet. This is the one about whom it is written:
“‘I will send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way before you.’
In the latter verses Jesus is quoting Malachi 3:1 when talking about John the Baptist "“I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,” says the Lord Almighty." malachi 3:1
It seems as if Jesus put himself in place of God at the beginning of Malachi 3:1, instead of "prepare the way before me"..... he says "I send my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare the way before you"
It was clear that John predicted the coming of Jesus before he was imprisoned, and the "you" in the passage cant be God the Father because God the Father is sending the prophet to whom "Before you" is directed.
I feel as if these passages demonstrate Jesus is claiming divinity for himself or else he is making himself out to be a very blasphemous jew..... any thoughts?
