I'm not interested in Christianity even though I find ideas of negative theology, Quakerism, and the monster -fascinating. A recommended book on negative theology and the monster is Deformed Discourse by David Williams. Some of the most interesting books I have read on other religions...
Haunting The Buddha by Robert DeCaroli - Argues that the location Buddha became enlightened was frequented by sorcerers and regarded as one of the most haunted places in India. A recommended film if you're at all interested in hauntings and enlightenment is the Thai film Nang Nak (1999) . A Canadian Victorian era novel which is excellent about this as well is A Strange Manuscript Found In A Copper Cylinder by James DeMille.
Mutants And Mystics by Jeffrey J Kripal - History of comics books moguls like Jack Kirby who used to put full page advertisements for the Rosicrucians. In full colour and a lot of fun.
Sinister Yogis by David Gordon White - This book is something I took great interest in and confirmed a lot of my suspicions and gratified me as far as how I think people should live their lives and what religion is for . The sorcerer yogi psychically attacks people in order to purify them.
The Terror That Comes In The Night by David J Hufford - Influential study on sleep paralysis. another excellent book is Sleep Paralysis: Night-mares Nocebos And The Mind Body Connection by Shelley R Adler.
Idea Of The Holy by Rudolf Otto - A comparison between Japanese Buddhism, the Old Testament, and the Satanic School of Verse (Romanticism) . This author looked at William Blake's The Tiger and Coleridge's Kubla Khan to study the daemonic. A Lutheran theologian, argues that the night-mare elicits feelings of piety and worship.
basically I don't want to pay for yoga classes, and I am white, am not interested in Christianity, even though I believe sin eating is still a common custom in Christian churches … the word for it is to shrive. I admittedly am really adverse to Christian beliefs. I like Valentinian gnosticism , "God is a man-eater", "By the breath of his nostrils are they consumed" (Job 4 KJV - sounds like yoga). I say I am white to emphasize how Christian my cultural background typically is, and the lack of alternatives open to me because of my race. Most other religions and cultures being very racist and closed to me.
I'm a University student , spent some years studying in the library, found all this stuff, don't mind my soul being eaten, want to be religious, but don't know what to do without a lot of money.
to be blunt I already know everything . I can make a strong case for what I believe that are the fruits of not only comparative religion but a deep reading of my own cultures most famous stories . I am not deracinated. I am very much a product of my cultural upbringing and my own indigenous spirituality . however, I realized quickly after doing University studies that religious professionals strongly associate psychic attack with wendigo psychosis , even though it's necessary to purify adherents. Rudolf Otto uses the words mysterium tremendum et fascinans to express the repulsive demonolotry of the sacred shared with its allure.
the closest I have come to converting into another religion outside of my racial wheel house is Cao Daism , …. Vietnamese will commonly venerate American soldiers and incorporate them into their altars . Cao Daism is in this spirit and venerates various notable western people as saints such as Victor Hugo and Shakespeare. Vietnamese custom is to adopt lost souls using an exterior ghost shrine in addition to the ancestral altar inside of their home. They don't care what culture the ghost is. The only thing stopping me really is language barrier and vegetarianism. but I wish other people were like them.
