I often see people here express pure hatred towards someone because of that one thing. Particularly if there is ever a post about celebrity who has mentioned opposition to gay marriage, no matter the point of the post, there will be a popular comment about how horrible they are. I don't know if they assume that anyone against gay marriage is someone who would kick a gay child out of their home or try to send them to conversion camps or something, but I find it saddening that so many people are so quick to dismiss anything else about a someone and consider them a horrible person because of that one trait. Especially with it being the thing they hate about them being their apparent hatred of others for one thing.
I guess it bothers me because growing up and living where I do, I know countless people who oppose gay marriage. I know most wouldn't kick out or abuse a child of theirs that is gay. Knowing specifically their point of view on the issue, I could never consider them as hating gay people. I know they are good people, even better people than the majority of those I know who support gay marriage. But as I have seen, their stance on gay marriage is all that matters to so many. So many people see them as evil, with no amount of good being able to redeem them. It's just something I'm frustrated by every time I see it and wanted to ask for other opinions.
